Rather than fix it, I thought it would be a good idea to replace it with one of the new Super Slim PS3s ones and just use the old machine in the spare room for downloading games, BBC iPlayer etc. You can download so much these days, I didn't think it would be an issue. Cheers, Ben Hi Ben, It is not possible to install the Play TV software off anything other then the disc that accompanied it at this moment in time. If your console is no longer playing any discs (it does sound like a reader issue) what you could try is If you go into the menu and got through option 2-5, and after each option try the Play TV disc to see if it allows you to load it and install the software at all? Hi Rabid, It's definitely the blu-ray drive, it now has a new HDD. It died reading a game, everything else about the machine is fine and games install correctly when I download them. The irony is too, that even if I do manage to install it from the disc, it will replace itself with the latest version 2.0.3 anyway (from the web). It seems silly I need a disc to be able to kick this off!
I have actually found the pkg files I need, but I guess there's no way of getting them to execute? I am pretty sure there's no legal reason for not having them on the shop - is there a chance it could be offered? The other option is to pay for and download the update.however, does this require it to be installed first? The other PS3 has a working drive, is there any way to transfer the files from this?
